IPS LCD
An IPS LCD lights the whole panel with a backlight and blocks light per pixel, which means blacks read as dark grey rather than true black. In exchange you get no burn-in risk, frequently higher sustained brightness, often higher refresh rates, and a lower price — which is why plenty of excellent handhelds still choose a good LCD. The weakness is contrast in dark scenes. A quality high-refresh IPS panel is a genuinely good display; a cheap one is where corners get cut.
